Split a ZIP file online

Split a large ZIP file in your browser: nothing is uploaded, no file is cut in half or recompressed, and every part is a normal ZIP that opens on its own. Choose a limit such as 20 MB for email and download the parts.

Choose ZIP file

How it works

  1. Choose your ZIP file

Drop the ZIP file in the box or choose it on your device.

  2. Choose the size

For example 20 MB, so every part fits in an email.

  3. Download the parts

Each part is a separate ZIP file that you can simply open.

Using the tool

Drop your ZIP file in the box and choose the maximum size of each part: 10 MB, 20 MB (email), 100 MB, 1 GB, or a size of your own. The parts are made at once, and you see how many files are in each. Download them one by one, or all together.

Choosing the part size

Pick the limit that the place you are sending to allows. Most email services accept 20 to 25 MB per message, but remember that an attachment grows by about a third when it is sent as email, so choose a part size of 15 to 18 MB for a 25 MB limit. Chat apps, forms and some upload sites have their own limits; the field takes any size in MB.

Why it can be bigger than the limit

Files are never cut in half. A single file that is larger than your limit therefore gets a part of its own, which is marked as bigger than the limit. If that is a problem, you need a different way to send that one file: a share link from your cloud storage, or compressing it first, for example a PDF with compress PDF.

Parts are independent

This is not a "split archive" of the old kind where all parts must be present. Every part is a complete ZIP with its own files, so the receiver can open each one separately and nothing needs to be joined. They only have to put the unpacked files into the same folder.

Before and after

Not sure how big your archive is? Open it first with extract ZIP to see the files and sizes. Make a ZIP from loose files with zip files.

Private by design

The splitting happens in your browser. Your archive is not uploaded.

Frequently asked questions

Does the receiver need to join the parts?

No. Every part is a normal ZIP that opens on its own. They only unpack all parts into the same folder.

What happens to a file bigger than my limit?

It is not cut. It gets a part of its own, which is marked as larger than the limit.

Is the content recompressed?

No. Every file is copied byte for byte, so the splitting is fast and nothing changes.

Is my ZIP uploaded?

No. The archive is divided in your browser and nothing is sent anywhere.
