Compress PDF online
Compress a PDF in your browser: your file is never uploaded, there is no limit on how many you compress, and the text stays sharp and selectable. Photos and scans are shrunk, and you see how much smaller each file gets.

What gets smaller?
Most of the weight of a PDF is in its pictures. The tool re-encodes photos and scans at a lower resolution, and only keeps a new version when it is really smaller. Text, fonts and vector graphics are left alone.
Why a "private" PDF compressor matters
PDFs are often contracts, invoices, ID scans and medical or tax documents. Most online compressors send the file to their servers. Here the PDF is processed on your own device, so it never travels anywhere, which also makes the tool usable for documents that you are not allowed to upload to unknown services.
Which level should you pick?
- Light (around 200 dpi) for documents that will be printed or zoomed in on.
- Recommended (around 150 dpi) for emailing and normal use.
- Strong (around 100 dpi) for the smallest file, fine for reading on a screen.
Changing the level recompresses at once, so you can try all three and compare the sizes.
What it cannot do
- Text-only PDFs. A PDF without pictures has little to gain. You get your original back, with an explanation.
- Password-protected PDFs. These cannot be opened by the tool. Remove the protection in your PDF reader first.
- Digital signatures. Changing a signed PDF in any way, by any tool, invalidates the signature. Do not compress documents that have to stay signed.
After compressing, a PDF that is still too large for email can go into a ZIP with zip files, or be split with split ZIP. Combine several PDFs first with merge PDF.
Private by design
The PDFs are processed in your browser. They are not uploaded.
Frequently asked questions
Is the text still selectable after compressing?
Yes. Text, fonts and lines are not touched. Only photos and scans are re-encoded.
Why did my PDF not get smaller?
It probably has no photos or scans, or they are already compressed strongly. You then get your original file back.
Can I compress a password-protected PDF?
Not directly. Remove the password protection in your PDF program first, and then compress.
Is my PDF uploaded?
No. It is compressed on your own device and never sent to a server.
