What is a RAR file?
RAR is an archive format made by the authors of WinRAR. It often compresses better than ZIP, but Windows and macOS can't open it without extra software. This tool does it in your browser.
Opening a RAR file
Drop the RAR file in the box. You see every file with its folder and size; click a name to preview images and text. Download saves one file, Download all packs everything into a ZIP that any computer can open.
Password-protected RAR
If the archive is protected, the tool asks for the password. Without it, the files can't be opened, not even by us: everything runs on your own device.
Opening is possible, creating is not
Extracting RAR files is allowed, but only WinRAR may create them. That is why this site can open a RAR but not make one. If you need to send files to someone who asks for RAR, a ZIP or 7z does the same job, and you can make both with RAR compressor.
Multi-part archives
Big RAR archives are often split into .part1.rar, .part2.rar and so on, or .r00, .r01. Such a set only opens when all the parts are read together, which this tool cannot do. Use a desktop program such as WinRAR or 7-Zip for those, with all parts in the same folder.
Converting a RAR to ZIP
A RAR that you want everyone to be able to open is easy to convert: open it here, choose Download all, and you have a ZIP that Windows, macOS, Android and iOS open without extra software. If the ZIP is too big to send, split ZIP cuts it into email-sized parts.
