TIFF to SVG converter

Convert TIFF to SVG in your browser: your files are never uploaded, there is no limit on how many you convert, and you choose between an exact copy inside an SVG or a traced vector version. Drop in one TIFF or a whole batch and download the SVG files straight away.

Scanned logos and drawings as vectors

A logo, a signature or a technical drawing that only exists as a scan can be turned into a vector. Under Kind of SVG, choose Vectorise and the converter traces the picture into filled shapes that stay sharp at any size and can be recoloured in Inkscape or Illustrator. With Exact, the scan is simply placed inside an SVG file as it is.

    Preparing the scan

Tracing is only as good as its source. For a clean result:

    • Crop away the scanner edge and anything around the drawing with crop image.
    • Straighten a crooked scan with rotate image.
    • Use a high-contrast scan, ideally black on white, so the tracer does not turn paper texture or shadows into shapes.
    • Scan at a decent resolution, but note that the tracer works on at most about one megapixel and reduces larger images first.

    Photos do not trace well

A photograph has thousands of tiny colour changes and ends up as a heavy collection of blotchy shapes. The traced version looks like a poster. Use Exact if you only need the photo inside an SVG file.

TIFFs with several images give the largest one. For the same job from a PNG, use PNG to SVG, and for the reverse, SVG to PNG.

    Frequently asked questions

Which option works for a scanned logo?

Vectorise. It traces the shapes of the logo so it scales cleanly. Clean up the scan first: crop, straighten and keep the contrast high.

Why does my traced SVG have so many small shapes?

Paper texture, shadows and scanner noise are traced as shapes too. Use a cleaner, higher-contrast scan.

    What does Exact do?

It places your scan inside an SVG as an image. It looks the same but is not a vector and will blur when scaled up.

    Is my TIFF uploaded?

No. The SVG is made in your browser, so the TIFF never leaves your device. A TIFF can be tens of megabytes, so converting on your own device also saves the upload time. There is no limit on file size or number of files, apart from your device's memory.
