The most common SVG conversion
PNG is the pixel format that matches an SVG best: it is lossless, and it keeps transparency, so a logo without a background stays without one. Use it for presentations, documents, social media, app icons, and any place that cannot show an SVG.
Choose the size
An SVG has no fixed number of pixels, so the converter draws it at its own width and height multiplied by the Size setting: 1×, 2× (the default) or 4×. A logo that is 200 × 200 in the SVG becomes 400 × 400 at 2× and 800 × 800 at 4×. If the SVG only has a viewBox and no width and height, that is used instead; many icon sets have a viewBox of 24 × 24, which is tiny, so use 4× or set larger dimensions in the file.
Typical sizes
- Favicon and app icon. 512 × 512 is a good master; make an ICO from it with PNG to ICO.
- Social media and presentations. 1200 pixels wide is plenty.
- Print. Aim for the printed size in centimetres times about 120 for 300 dpi, and use 4×.
Troubleshooting
Text in an SVG is drawn with the fonts available on your device, and SVGs that load images or fonts from another address are drawn without them. Convert text to outlines in your design tool before you export. If you are working in the opposite direction, PNG to SVG can trace a pixel logo.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best size for the PNG?
Start at the default 2×. Use 4× for print and for large display. If your SVG only has a small viewBox like 24 × 24, choose 4× to avoid a tiny image.
Is the background transparent?
Yes. Areas without fill stay transparent in the PNG.
Why does the text in my PNG use the wrong font?
SVG text is drawn with fonts on your device. Convert text to outlines in your design software to make it look the same everywhere.
Is my SVG uploaded?
No. The PNG is made in your browser, so the SVG never leaves your device. Logos and drawings of unreleased work are not sent anywhere. There is no limit on file size or number of files, apart from your device's memory.
