SVG to ICO converter
Convert SVG to ICO in your browser: your files are never uploaded, there is no limit on how many you convert, and the vector is drawn sharp at every size from 16 to 256 pixels. Drop in one SVG or a whole batch and download the ICO files straight away.

Why SVG is the ideal source
A pixel image has to be scaled down to 16 pixels and loses detail on the way. An SVG is drawn from its shapes for every size separately, so the 16 pixel and the 256 pixel entries both come out crisp. This converter renders your SVG at the size set under Size and then fits it into each icon size.
If your logo is a simple shape with one or two colours, SVG to ICO gives the cleanest favicon you can get from this site.
Get the setting right: the size of the SVG
The size an SVG is drawn at depends on its width and height, or on its viewBox when those are missing. Many icon sets use a viewBox of 0 0 24 24. That is only 24 pixels, or 48 at the default Sharp (2×), which is too little for the 128 and 256 pixel entries.
- Use Extra large (4×) for SVGs with a small viewBox.
- Or set
width="512" height="512"on theelement, which also gives any other tool a good size to start from. - Keep the SVG square. A wide logo is fitted into the square with transparent bars above and below, so it looks tiny at 16 pixels.
One SVG, two favicon files
An SVG can be your favicon itself:

Browsers that understand SVG use the first icon, the others fall back to the ICO. A bonus of SVG is that it can follow the dark mode of the visitor with a prefers-color-scheme rule inside the file. The complete setup, with the iPhone and manifest icons, is in how to make a favicon.
Before you convert
- Outline your text. Text in an SVG is drawn with the fonts of the device. Convert it to paths in your design tool first.
- Remove external references. An SVG that loads images or stylesheets from another address renders without them when used as an image.
- Need a PNG too? SVG to PNG gives you the 180 and 512 pixel files from the same source. To start from a pixel image instead, use PNG to ICO.
Frequently asked questions
Is my SVG uploaded?
No. The SVG is drawn and converted in your browser, so the file never leaves your device. There is no limit on the file size or the number of files, apart from your device's memory.
Do I still need an ICO if browsers can use SVG favicons?
Yes, as a fallback. Current Chrome, Edge and Firefox use an SVG icon, but Safari and older browsers, bookmarks, feed readers and crawlers still ask for /favicon.ico. Keep both: the SVG for sharpness and the ICO as the safety net.
Why is my icon blurry although my SVG is a vector?
An SVG is drawn at its own width and height first. With a viewBox of 24 × 24 and the default 2×, it is drawn at 48 pixels and then scaled up for the 256 pixel size. Choose Extra large (4×) in the settings, or give the SVG a bigger width and height, to keep the large sizes sharp.
Does the transparency of my SVG survive?
Yes. Areas without fill stay transparent in every size. If your logo has a background shape, it is kept as drawn.
My SVG uses text. Will the font be right?
Not always. Text is drawn with fonts your browser has, and an SVG used as an image cannot load web fonts. Convert the text to outlines (paths) in your design tool before you export.
