TIFF to GIF converter
Convert TIFF to GIF in your browser: your files are never uploaded, there is no limit on how many you convert, and the result is a still GIF with at most 256 colours. Drop in one TIFF or a whole batch and download the GIF files straight away.

Only for simple pictures
A GIF can show 256 colours at most. A scan of a photo has millions, so the converter has to reduce them and mixes the remaining colours in a pattern. The result looks grainy and banded. A TIFF of a black-and-white drawing, a diagram or a signature, with few colours, converts cleanly instead.
Make it small first
TIFF scans are huge, often thousands of pixels wide, and a GIF of that size is much bigger than it needs to be. Use shrink image to bring the picture to the size you need first, and crop image to cut away scanner margins. A smaller picture also looks better in 256 colours, because fewer pixels are affected by dithering.
What to expect
- Transparency from a TIFF with alpha is kept as on or off; there are no soft edges in a GIF.
- Still image only. A TIFF with several pages gives its largest image, as a single GIF.
- File size. For photos the GIF can be larger than a JPG. Use TIFF to JPG if size matters and the picture is a photo.
GIF is the right container for old forums, signature fields, and systems that only accept GIF for small images.
Frequently asked questions
Why does my GIF look grainy?
A GIF has only 256 colours. The tool mixes them in a pattern (dithering) to imitate the missing colours, which looks grainy in photos.
Which TIFF content works well as GIF?
Line art, diagrams, logos and black-and-white scans. Photos and gradients do not.
Are all pages of my TIFF converted?
No, only the largest image in the file becomes a GIF.
Is my TIFF uploaded?
No. The GIF is made in your browser, so the TIFF never leaves your device. A TIFF can be tens of megabytes, so converting on your own device also saves the upload time. There is no limit on file size or number of files, apart from your device's memory.
