PNG to PSD converter
Convert PNG to PSD in your browser: your files are never uploaded, there is no limit on how many you convert, and transparency is kept as an alpha channel in a flat Photoshop file. Drop in one PNG or a whole batch and download the PSD files straight away.

Continue in Photoshop or a compatible editor
PSD is the format of Adobe Photoshop, and programs such as Photopea, GIMP, Krita and Affinity Photo open it too. Converting a PNG to PSD is handy when a template, a mockup, a print shop or a colleague expects a PSD, or when you want to keep working on a cut-out in an editor that prefers its own format.
Transparency is preserved
If your PNG has a transparent background, the PSD gets the same transparency, so a logo or cut-out stays on a clear canvas when you open it. If the PNG has no transparency, you get an ordinary opaque image.
What it is not
The result is a flat file: one layer holding the picture. The converter does not create layers, masks, text layers or smart objects, and cannot restore the layers of a design that was exported to PNG. It is a starting point, not a recovered design.
Practical notes
- File size. The picture data in the PSD is stored uncompressed, so the PSD is much larger than the PNG.
- Colours. The file is plain RGB. No CMYK conversion is done.
- Need to cut something out first? The background remover makes a transparent PNG; convert that here. For a photo without transparency, JPG to PSD does the same job.
Frequently asked questions
Will my PSD keep the transparent background?
Yes. The transparency of the PNG is stored as an alpha channel, so a logo or cut-out stays transparent when you open the PSD.
Does the PSD have layers?
No. It contains the picture as a single flat layer. The converter cannot create layers because the PNG only has pixels.
Why is the PSD bigger than my PNG?
The pixel data in the PSD is not compressed, so its size follows the number of pixels. PNG compresses the same data.
Is my PNG uploaded?
No. The PSD is made in your browser, so the PNG never leaves your device. Screenshots and designs often hold things you would rather not share, and here they stay with you. There is no limit on file size or number of files, apart from your device's memory.
