Everything happens in your browser. Your files are not uploaded.

    How it works

    1. Choose your JPG files

Drop them into the box, choose them on your device or paste with Ctrl+V.

    2. Converted automatically

Each file is converted to PSD straight away in your browser.

    3. Download

File by file, or everything at once as a ZIP file.

    A starting file for Photoshop

PSD is the native format of Adobe Photoshop, and many other editors, such as Photopea, GIMP and Affinity Photo, can open it as well. Converting a JPG to PSD gives you a file to start a design from, for example when a template, a print shop or a colleague asks for a PSD.

    One layer, nothing more

This converter writes a flat PSD: the picture is one layer, in RGB. It does not create layers, masks or smart objects, and it cannot recover the layers of an earlier design that was exported to JPG. You start with a single background layer and build from there.

    What to expect

    • Quality stays as it is. The PSD holds the decoded JPG, with no extra loss. It will not look better than the JPG either.
    • The file is large. PSD data is stored uncompressed here, so a photo can be many times bigger than the JPG.
    • No colour profile changes. The file is plain RGB, with no conversion to CMYK.

If you want to cut out the subject before you open it in an editor, the background remover gives you a PNG, and PNG to PSD keeps that transparency in the Photoshop file.

    Frequently asked questions

    Will my PSD have layers?

No. It is a flat file with one layer. The converter cannot know what the layers of an original design were; it only has the pixels of the JPG.

Why is the PSD so big?

The picture data is stored without compression, so the file size follows the number of pixels, not the content. A large photo makes a large PSD.

Can I open the PSD without Photoshop?

Yes. GIMP, Photopea, Affinity Photo, Krita and many viewers open PSD files, though support for features beyond a flat image varies.

    Is my JPG uploaded?

No. The PSD is made in your browser, so the JPG never leaves your device. Photos are often private, and here they stay that way. There is no limit on file size or number of files, apart from your device's memory.
