File by file, or everything at once as a ZIP file.

What you get, and what you do not

Converting a JPG to PNG does not bring back detail that the JPG already lost. The PNG shows exactly the same picture, including any blocky edges or blurry areas from the earlier compression. What you do gain is a format that does not lose anything further: you can open, edit and save the PNG as often as you like without extra artefacts.

    Why people do it anyway

    • Editing. Saving a JPG again each time you tweak it degrades it a little more. Work on a PNG and export a JPG once at the end.
    • A program or form that wants PNG. Some tools and stores ask specifically for PNG.
    • A first step toward transparency. A PNG can have a transparent background, a JPG cannot. Convert here, then remove the background with the background remover.

    The file will be bigger

A photo as PNG is usually several times larger than the same photo as JPG, because PNG keeps every pixel exactly. For sharing or for a website, keep the JPG, or choose JPG to WebP for a smaller file. For screenshots, logos and text, the PNG is the better format, which is why PNG to JPG exists for the reverse.

    Frequently asked questions

Does converting to PNG improve the quality?

No. A PNG made from a JPG shows the same picture, including compression artefacts. It only prevents further loss when you save it again.

Why is my PNG so much bigger?

PNG stores the picture without losing detail, which suits graphics and screenshots, but photos have a lot of fine variation that makes the file large. A JPG saves space by throwing some of that detail away.

Can I make the background transparent?

Not in this step, because a JPG has no transparency. Convert to PNG here and then use the background remover on the result.

    Is my JPG uploaded?

No. The PNG is made in your browser, so the JPG never leaves your device. Photos are often private, and here they stay that way. There is no limit on file size or number of files, apart from your device's memory.
