QR code generator
Type a link or any text and the QR code appears straight away. Download it as a PNG or as a scalable SVG. The code is made in your browser, so nothing you type is uploaded.
How it works
-
Type your text or link
The code appears immediately as you type.
-
Choose the settings
Size, colours and other options; the preview changes straight away.
-
Download
As a PNG for a website or a document, or as an SVG for print.
Making a good QR code
- Error correction (L, M, Q or H) sets how much of the code can be damaged or covered and still scan. Higher levels make a denser code. M suits most uses; use H if you plan to add a logo.
- Colours: dark on light scans best. A light code on a dark background isn't read by many scanners, and the tool warns about low contrast.
- Transparent background makes the PNG or SVG easy to place on a coloured design.
- Choose the PNG size, or download the SVG to print at any size without blur.
A QR code can hold roughly 2,900 characters at the lowest error correction, but shorter is better: less data means a simpler code that scans faster, so short links work best.
Error correction levels
| Level | Damage the code can survive |
|---|---|
| Low (L) | about 7% |
| Normal (M) | about 15% |
| High (Q) | about 25% |
| Highest (H) | about 30% |
Before you print
Test the code with at least two phones, from the distance it will be scanned. Leave a quiet white margin around it, and make it large enough: as a rule of thumb, a code of 2 cm scans from about 20 cm away.

Frequently asked questions
Which error correction level should I choose?
*Normal* (15%) suits most uses. Choose *Highest* (30%) when you add a logo or the code will be printed on a surface that may get scratched, and *Low* (7%) for the smallest code when you have a lot of text.
Does a QR code expire?
No. The text itself is in the code; there is no redirect or account behind it. It works for as long as you keep the image, unlike services that make "dynamic" codes through their own server.
PNG or SVG?
PNG for web pages, e-mail and documents. SVG for print, because it stays sharp at any size and can be scaled to a poster.
How much text fits in a QR code?
Roughly 2,900 characters at the lowest error correction, less at higher levels. Short is better: a short link makes a simpler code that scans faster, and [compressing the text](/en/text/compress-text) can help for long input.
