SVG to GIF converter

Convert SVG to GIF in your browser: your files are never uploaded, there is no limit on how many you convert, and the vector is drawn at the size you choose, and transparent areas stay transparent. Drop in one SVG or a whole batch and download the GIF files straight away.

    SVG to GIF

SVG is a vector file; choose how large the GIF will be.

Everything happens in your browser. Your files are not uploaded.

    How it works

    1. Choose your SVG files

Drop them into the box, choose them on your device or paste with Ctrl+V.

    2. Converted automatically

Each file is converted to GIF straight away in your browser.

    3. Download

File by file, or everything at once as a ZIP file.

Flat art is what GIF is good at

GIF is limited to 256 colours, which is a problem for photos but not for typical vector artwork: logos, icons, charts and flat illustrations often use only a handful of colours. A GIF made from such an SVG looks the same as the original and is small. Gradients and soft shadows are where you will see banding.

    Edges and transparency

A GIF pixel is either transparent or opaque, with nothing in between. A vector shape has smooth, anti-aliased edges, so when it is drawn on a transparent canvas, the partly transparent edge pixels have to be rounded to one or the other. On a light page this shows as a slightly rough outline, and on a different background colour a faint fringe. Convert to PNG with SVG to PNG if you need perfectly soft edges on any background.

    Settings

    • Size. Choose 1×, 2× or 4× of the SVG's own width and height. Bigger is sharper, and the GIF grows accordingly.
    • Animated SVG? Animations inside the SVG are not converted. You get a single still image.

Typical uses are old forums and chat programs, email signatures and systems that accept only GIF for small images. For other formats from the same drawing, SVG to JPG gives a small file with a solid background.

    Frequently asked questions

Will my SVG animation become an animated GIF?

No. The tool draws a single still image of the SVG.

Why do the edges of my shapes look rough?

GIF has no partial transparency. Smooth edges are rounded to fully transparent or fully opaque. Use a PNG if you need soft edges on any background.

How many colours can the GIF have?

At most 256. Flat artwork usually fits easily, while gradients and shadows may show banding.

    Is my SVG uploaded?

No. The GIF is made in your browser, so the SVG never leaves your device. Logos and drawings of unreleased work are not sent anywhere. There is no limit on file size or number of files, apart from your device's memory.
