Convert JPG to BMP in your browser: your files are never uploaded, there is no limit on how many you convert, and the result is a standard 24-bit Windows bitmap. Drop in one JPG or a whole batch and download the BMP files straight away.

When you need a BMP
BMP is an old, simple format from Windows. Hardly anyone uses it for the web any more, but some programs still insist on it: older Windows software, embedded displays and microcontroller projects, boot logos, and certain game or modding tools. If a program refuses your JPG, a BMP is often the format it does accept.
Expect a much bigger file
A BMP stores every pixel without compression, at 3 bytes each. A 12 megapixel photo of about 4 MB as a JPG becomes a bitmap of around 36 MB. The picture does not look better for it: the BMP holds exactly what the JPG showed, including its compression artefacts. Resize first with shrink image when the target device only needs a small image, such as a 320 × 240 display.
What does not change
The conversion does not add any quality and does not remove any. Colours stay as they are, and because a JPG has no transparency there is nothing to flatten. For a lossless copy without the size penalty, JPG to PNG is the better choice, and for transparent graphics PNG to BMP handles the background colour.
Frequently asked questions
Why is the BMP so much bigger than my JPG?
A JPG is compressed and a BMP is not. The BMP stores the colour of every pixel, which takes about three bytes per pixel regardless of the picture.
Is a BMP better quality than a JPG?
No. The BMP is a copy of the decoded JPG, so it has the same detail and the same compression artefacts, just in a larger file.
Will it work on an embedded display?
Many projects expect a 24-bit BMP of an exact size. This tool makes 24-bit bitmaps at the size of your image, so resize first if the display needs specific dimensions.
Is my JPG uploaded?
No. The BMP is made in your browser, so the JPG never leaves your device. Photos are often private, and here they stay that way. There is no limit on file size or number of files, apart from your device's memory.
