Convert text to lowercase
Paste your text and every capital letter becomes a small one, as you type. The conversion runs in your browser and nothing is uploaded, so you can use it on e-mails, contracts or code without a second thought.

When to use it
- Making text case-insensitive before you compare, sort or search it.
- Cleaning up a SHOUTED e-mail subject, headline or list.
- Preparing tags, usernames, e-mail addresses or file names, which are usually lowercase.
HELLO World becomes hello world. Only the letters change: numbers, spaces and punctuation stay exactly as they are.
Lowercase before comparing
Two lines that differ only in capitals, such as Apple and apple, are different to a computer. Lowercasing both makes them equal, which is why it is the first step in matching e-mail addresses, comparing lists or counting words. To remove the doubles that this reveals, use remove duplicate lines, which also has an option to ignore capitals.
From a title to an identifier
Lowercase is also the first half of many naming styles. The snake_case converter and the slug generator lowercase the text and replace the spaces, so a title like Café Menu 2026 becomes cafe_menu_2026 or cafe-menu-2026 in one step.

For the opposite, use the uppercase converter. To make only the first letter of each sentence a capital, use sentence case.
Frequently asked questions
Does it lowercase accented letters and other alphabets?
Yes. É becomes é, Ñ becomes ñ and Greek or Cyrillic capitals are converted too. One exception to know: the Turkish dotted İ becomes an i with a combining dot, because that is how Unicode defines it.
Are numbers, punctuation and line breaks changed?
No. Only letters change, so `ORDER #4521, PLEASE!` becomes `order #4521, please!` with the same spacing and the same line breaks.
How do I get a capital at the start of each sentence?
Use [sentence case](/en/text/sentence-case-converter), which lowercases everything and then puts a capital at the start of each sentence.
Is there a limit on the length?
No fixed limit. Very long texts can take a little longer, because everything happens on your own device.
