JSON test data generator
Need JSON test data for an app, API or prototype? This tool makes an array of objects with British names, email addresses, phone numbers, addresses, amounts and lorem ipsum. Choose the fields and how many records you need and the result appears straight away.

Each field can be switched on or off in the Fields box, and the keys are always the same, so the output is easy to use in code. Dates of birth fall between 1950 and 2005, amounts between 0.00 and 2,500.00, and about seven in ten records are active. The city and the postcode area match.
What a record looks like
With the default fields, the first record you see is this one:
{
"id": 1,
"name": "Ella Robinson",
"email": "ella.robinson@example.com",
"city": "York",
"amount": 411.38,
"active": false
}
You can generate 1 to 1,000 records, indented with 2 spaces or 4 spaces, or on One line. A thousand records with every field switched on and no indent are about 290,000 characters.
Stable while you tweak
The data comes from a seed, so it doesn't change when you toggle an option. New variant gives a fresh set. Need it in another format? Convert the result with JSON to CSV or JSON to YAML, or use the XML test data generator. For a block of plain placeholder text, there is the lorem ipsum generator.
Frequently asked questions
Is the data real?
No. Names, addresses, phone numbers and postcodes are put together from lists and don't belong to real people. Email addresses use example domains such as `example.com`, so a test mailing can never reach a real person. Phone numbers follow the UK mobile pattern, 07 followed by nine digits, without being real numbers.
Can I get nested objects or a different shape?
No. The output is always a flat array of objects, one per record, with the same keys in each. If your API wraps the list, add the wrapper yourself, for instance `{"data": …}`, and tidy it with the [JSON formatter](/en/code/json-formatter).
Are the ids unique?
The `id` field counts from 1 up to the number of records, so within one set it is unique. For random identifiers, make a list with the [UUID generator](/en/other/uuid-generator) and paste them in.
Why is the same data there every time I open the page?
The data comes from a fixed seed, so the first set you see is always the same, and it doesn't change while you toggle fields or change the indent. That makes test fixtures and screenshots reproducible. Click *New variant* for a fresh set.
Is anything uploaded?
No. The records are generated in your browser; nothing is sent or stored.
