Repeat text
Repeat any text a chosen number of times, from 1 to 10,000, with the separator of your choice between the copies. The text is handled in your browser and nothing is uploaded.
How it works
-
Paste your text
Type or paste the text in the left box, or open a .txt file. No text to hand? Click Example.
-
Instant result
The result appears as you type. Change the options and see straight away what changes.
-
Copy or download
Copy the result with one click, save it as a file or use it as input for a next step.
Example
Hello repeated 3 times with a new line between the copies becomes three lines of Hello. With Nothing as the separator, ab repeated 3 times becomes ababab.
Separators
- New line: one copy per line, ideal for lists.
- Blank line: copies separated by an empty line.
- Space: a run of words, as in
ha ha ha. - Nothing: the copies are glued together, handy for patterns.
Uses
- Test data: fill a form or a database field with a known amount of text.
- Layout tests: check how a design handles long words or many lines.
- Patterns and dividers:
-=-=-=-=or* * * *. - Load tests for text inputs, to find where a limit starts.
There is a safety limit of 50 million characters, so the browser does not freeze. To build a list with different items instead, start with split text, and to combine lines into one, use join lines.
Frequently asked questions
What is the maximum number of repeats?
10,000 copies. The result may not exceed 50 million characters, and the tool tells you if it would, so a long text with a high count asks for a smaller number.
What can go between the copies?
A new line, a blank line, a space or nothing at all. Nothing at all glues the copies together, so `ab` three times becomes `ababab`.
Can I repeat a block with several lines?
Yes. The whole text is repeated as one block, with the chosen separator between the copies.
What is it good for besides test data?
Patterns and borders, such as a line of `=-` repeated 20 times, or filler text to test how a layout handles long content.
