Days between two dates

Pick a start and end date to see how many days, weeks, months and working days lie between them. Handy for counting down to a holiday, a deadline or a due date, or for working out a notice period.

Fill in the fields; the answer appears here straight away.

How it works

  1. Enter the values

Type the numbers or the formula. Decimals may use a point or a comma. No idea? Click Fill in an example.

  2. Instant answer

The answer appears as you type, with the most important intermediate values.

  3. See the working

Under "How it's worked out" you see the steps, handy for checking your own calculation.

Include the end date or not?

By default the calculator counts the nights in between: from Monday to Wednesday is 2 days. Tick Include the end date to count both days, for example for leave from Monday up to and including Wednesday: that is 3 days.

Working days

Working days are Monday to Friday. The option to skip public holidays uses the Dutch public holidays (New Year's Day, Easter Monday, King's Day, 5 May, Ascension Day, Whit Monday, Christmas Day and Boxing Day), because the tool started out on the Dutch version of this site. For other countries, leave that option off and subtract your own holidays.

Need someone's age?

To see how old someone is in years, months and days, use the age calculator.

Worked examples

Thursday 24 Dec 2026 Saturday 2 Jan 2027 9 7
Sunday 27 Sep 2026 Friday 25 Dec 2026 89 64

The 89 days from late September to Christmas, 12 weeks and 5 days, is the example the calculator starts with.

Notice periods and deadlines

A notice period of 30 days starting on 1 October ends on 31 October, because you count the nights. Whether the first or the last day counts depends on the contract or the law, so use the Include the end date option as the contract describes it.

Age is a different count

For the years, months and days someone has lived, use the age calculator, which counts whole months and treats the end of a month carefully. A share of a period, such as 64 working days of 89, can be turned into a percentage with the percentage calculator.

Frequently asked questions

Is the start day counted?

By default the calculator counts the nights in between: Monday to Friday is 4 days. Tick *Include the end date* and it counts both days, giving 5.

How do I count working days for a holiday period?

Pick the first and last day, tick *Include the end date* and read the *Working days (Mon–Fri)* line. Leave the public holiday option off if you are not using the Dutch calendar.

Are leap years taken into account?

Yes. The calculator works with the real calendar, so 29 February is counted when it falls inside the period.

How do I count the weeks until an event?

Read the weeks line, which shows complete weeks and the extra days. From 24 December to 2 January is 9 days: 1 week and 2 days.
